Jeep Night At Gas Monkey Bar and Grill

September 13, 2019 by Margaret Filed Under: Around Town, Jeep Nights

Our first jeep event since buying our jeep, Woohoo!

Well, before I get too deep into the event I should mention that we found out about the event weeks before we had even bought the yellow Mudbug jeep. I saw the even posted by The North Texas Jeep club and mentioned it to Scott. Scott laughed and said we could go if we had a jeep by then. There went my chances of going or at least that’s what I thought. Just a few nights before the event we bought the jeep. Before I could say anything Scott said: “I guess now we’re going to jeep night”. This post has moved to https://ourjeepadventures.com/jeep-night-at-gas-monkey-bar-and-grill/

Dallas Texas Truck & Jeep Fest 2019

August 25, 2019 by Margaret Filed Under: Around Town, Buying a Jeep

Dallas Texas Truck and Jeep Fest 2019 showcased products like custom trucks and Jeeps, product demos, factory direct pricing on truck and Jeep accessories.

Yesterday Scott and I went to our first Jeep type event. It was the Dallas Truck & Jeep Fest put on by 4WP. It showcased products like custom trucks and Jeeps, product demonstrations, factory direct pricing on truck and Jeep accessories and parts along with hourly giveaways. One of my favorite parts was that the majority of the jeeps there were the jeeps people were using. You could get an idea of what they used their jeep for and a bit of the owner’s personality.

Recap of the Progressive International Motorcycle Show 2019

The Progressive International Motorcycle Show in Dallas was last weekend and as usual, we had a great time! We normally only attend on Saturday or Sunday but this year we decided to go on Friday and Saturday! After the first hour on Friday, I was glad we did. This year there were several options to really get involved. Knowing Saturday would draw a much larger crowd we decided to do that stuff Friday and save the vendors for Saturday. [Read more…]

Progressive International Motorcycle Show 2018

March 3, 2018 by Margaret Filed Under: Around Town, motorcycle fellowship, Texas

2018 IMS motorcycle show

The 2018 Progressive Motorcycle Show was February 2-4. Scott and I attended all day Saturday. We got there early because I had purchased the VIP ticket in order to get in early in hopes of snagging some photos before the crowd came in.

Our VIP tour host

VIP Ticket

This year I decided to buy the VIP ticket which meant I would be able to get in with 49 other people 30 minutes early. During that time we had a tour guide that took us around the main areas of the show and gave us information about the vendors.

Is it worth the extra cost? YES! For me, it was great to be able to get photos for the blogs before the crowds gathered around. It’s always great to get shots of everyone looking around but I also enjoy getting pictures of the motorcycles and booths with any obstructions. The VIP ticket also included a gift bag of goodies including a voucher for a free IMS t-shirt. I will be buying a VIP ticket next year too.

Motorcycles

Motorcycles are everywhere, old and new. J&P Cycles sponsors the Ultimate Build. The J&P Cycles Ultimate Builder Custom Bike Show is world’s largest motorcycle builder competition, featuring more than 350 motorcycles and $100,000 in cash and prizes across the IMS Tour. Professional and amateur builders compete at their local IMS for cash, prizes, recognition and a chance to move-on to the Championship Round in Chicago — where $70,000 in cash and prizes is up for grabs!

Of Course, Harley-Davidson, Honda, Indian, BMW, and many other manufacturers are there showing their latest bikes. As always I had to look at the new Softail Deluxe and for a few minutes I wanted to trade mine in for a new one but it will be years before I’m really willing to do that.

The Attractions

The IMS does a great job of pulling together vendors for everyone regardless of what type of motorcycle you ride or riding style. Scott and I planned our day at the show carefully to ensure we were able to get around to the shows we wanted to see and would still have time left over to meet with vendors, enjoy lunch together and we even managed to make time to sit down in between to relax and talk. You really can spend an entire day at the show and not get bored! This is a full listing of this year’s attractions.

Stunt Show

I am not one to try any type of stunt really but the stunt show is one of my favorite parts of the show. The skill these riders shows is awesome. This was the last thing we did and it was the perfect ending to the day!

I did not put together a full video of the show because most of my time was spent taking pictures. Below you will find the video Scott did of the show. As always, I think he did a great job of capturing the excitement and fun.

All in all, it was another great show!

The Ride: A Riding Video For Riders and Non-riders

January 13, 2018 by Margaret Filed Under: Around Town, Learning to Ride

What’s It Like To Ride a Motorcycle?

If you ride a motorcycle you know that’s a hard question to answer to non-riders. I remember asking Scott what it was like prior to learning to ride. He did his best to explain it but as we all know you have to get on a motorcycle to fully understand the feeling that comes when you’re cruising down the road.

My Art Project

Last semester I took an art class. For our final project, we could do anything we wanted. Seeing how riding is a big part of our life I knew somehow I wanted to incorporate that into my project. We briefly talked in class about video as a form of art. My instructor mentioned no one had ever really done a video as a final project so I decided to do one. I was fairly certain none of the students in my class have ever ridden so I wanted to try and capture a bit of what it’s like to ride.

Capturing The “Feeling”

To capture the feeling we compiled a list of common questions nonriders typically ask us and tried to answer them with the actual video footage and in the commentary. Each project had to be presented to the class the week before finals. Each of was given a time limit of up to 5 minutes including questions and answers. For that reason, we kept the video short and tried to mix the clips up with several different types of riding experiences.

I hope you enjoy the video!

First Ride Of 2017: Horny Toad Bar & Grill

January 21, 2017 by Margaret Filed Under: Around Town, Day Trips, Texas, Videos

First Ride of 2017 186.4 miles

Our First Ride of 2017!

It’s January in Texas, that means you can never really know what to expect for weather.  Scott and I have been watching Wunderground with great interest all week in hopes of getting out on the motorcycles for a ride. Then, there it was, 75 for the high! Of course, it was a Friday and normally that means he’ll be working. As the week drew to an end Scott ended up with a short day on Friday!

I spent Thursday and early Friday morning clearing my schedule and getting all my work done. I kept a close watch on my phone for the text saying he was on his way home. I made sure I was geared up and ready as soon as he got home!

Destination

We headed out around 1:00. I had no idea what he had planned but it didn’t matter. We’d be on the road together on a beautiful day!  Once we got past Godly and were at a stop sign Scott gave me two options, of course, I took the longer one!

We took some back roads out To Cranfills gap to Horny Toad Bar & Grill for lunch. When we arrived there was only one other person there and he was finishing up. That meant we had the entire place to ourselves, that’s a first. The service and food was fantastic as always. If you get a chance to try the taco salad it’s my favorite!

Since it was still warm we took a semi-long way home. We did opt to take the Chisolm Trail Toll road once we got into Cleburne to avoid the congestion. Although we spent a couple buck each bike it was worth it. We had very little traffic and no stop signs or red lights. Not to mention irritated cagers on their way home from work ;).

Round trip we road 186.4 miles.

On the Road Again

October 11, 2015 by Margaret Filed Under: Around Town

IMG_3723It has been a long summer but we are  back on the road again!

Between the extreme Texas heat, busy work schedules and events we really haven’t been able to ride much since getting back from our trip in June. I was beginning to think I would never get to ride again!

IMG_3719

Since Scott’s work scheduled changed a few weeks ago, giving him weekends off again, I have been stocking the weather channel. Finally, its below 100 and we have time to ride! Skills day was Saturday so we attended that and then took off to grab some lunch in Granbury, TX. Once lunch was done we decided to take the long way home. That somehow turned into the REALLY long way home with a stop at Loco Coyote for some drinks to cool off since the temp was nearing 90. We ended up making it home around dark.

IMG_2582

We woke up early Sunday morning to meet up with some friends for another full day of riding. Our destination was Doc’s in Muenster, TX. The ride to Muenster is one of my favorite “long rides”. The scenery is perfect and  the roads are seldom busy. You pass through the wind turbines and in one spot can get really close to them. Watching them spin is almost hypnotic.

After leaving Muenster we stopped on the Taovayas Memorial bridge. Despite all the rain we had in teh spring the river was actually very low.

IMG_3746

At our last gas stop Scott mentioned it was getting close to dinner and wanted to know what we thought about stopping in Godly at Taco Del Notre. He knows it is one of my favorites spots to eat on the way home and Steve and Angie had been wanting to try it so it took little effort to convince us all we needed to stop.

We spent an hour or so talking and eating before parting ways and heading home. It was without a doubt one of those days that you don’t want to end.

Fill Your Tank at Red Hot & Blue

August 9, 2015 by Margaret Filed Under: Around Town, motorcycle fellowship

Harley Davidson motorcycle ride to Red Hot & blue Memphis style barbecue.

This Lady Rides and Rumbling Rider have teamed up in a new series called Fill Your Tank. This series will take you on long and short rides to our favorite spots to eat, drink and relax. We wanted the first trip to be at one of our favorite and most visited spots, Red Hot & Blue. The ride it short, only about 8 miles, but it allows us to get out on the bikes after work or on a busy day when a long ride just isn’t an option.

Red Hot & Blue is a full-service, casual-themed restaurant chain and caterer featuring delicious award-winning ribs, Memphis-style barbecue, smoked wings, and Southern sides and desserts. The atmosphere is laid back and welcoming. Jazz music plays in the background but it is low enough that you can still have a conversation without having to yell.

Red Hot N Blue Dry Rub Memphis Style Ribs

Scott almost always get the dry rubbed ribs with fries and baked beans. The ribs are seasoned well and they have the best fries around! I like there chicken fried chicken but am open to trying a special when they have one. My sides are almost always the same, potato salad and okra or double potato salad.

Red Hot N Blue Dry Rub Three meat trio

If you prefer burgers they do have several to choose from and each one that I have had has been juicy and cooked as requested. The portions are very generous regardless of what you choose.

What has kept us coming back for 15 years? The restaurant is always clean, the staff is friendly, service is quick and the food is fabulous!  If Southern hospitality and great food is what you are looking for Red Hot & Blue delivers!
