Viking Ultimate Large Saddlebags On Harley Softail Deluxe Review

Almost five years, 14 states, extreme weather conditions and almost 40,000 miles. That’s what my former Viking saddlebags were able to handle. Is it any wonder why I decided to stick with the Viking brand?! Truth be told they probably have some more life in them but we felt several new features/options warranted upgrading.

New Features

• Built-in lock
• The outer edges of the lid have a wider strip of velcro which should prevent the lip edge from curling.
• Even stronger reinforced fiberglass body
• Optional quick disconnect mounting bracket 

I was most excited about being able to lock my bags. When we bought my previous bags no one offered a locking bag for the Softail Deluxe that would hold more than a hairbrush and tube of chapstick. Now when we go inside somewhere I know my belongings are secure.

Viking Bags has a lot of options that fit the Softail Deluxe. I went with the Viking Ultimate Large bags because we enjoy taking long trips on the motorcycles and even on day rides it’s nice to have room to pack what I may need.   The other reason I like this style is I think the shape fits the style of the bike well. The curve almost mimics the shape of the fender.

Quick Disconnect

We’ve been waiting five years for the quick disconnect mounting option.  This is going to make bike maintenance much easier! Not to mention being able to get to my tires to keep those whitewalls clean! I was a bit nervous that the bags might rattle or shake with this system but they didn’t. In fact, it was as if the bags were still on with the hard mount option.

Test Ride

We took the bike out and road over 300 miles yesterday. The bags held everything I needed and locked up securely at each of our stops throughout the day. At one point I did spill sunscreen on the lid of one of the bags and it wiped up easily without leaving behind any type of residue.
